As I write this account of my book writing journey in 2023, we are almost half way through the year 2024. It’s been a very busy start to the year for me, I’ve began settling into my new job, I’m focussing on my online book writing courses and my children are at different stages in their life and I’m adapting to the changes.
2023 saw the change of my focus from writing to my next best passion and that’s being an ambassador in STEM. I began running STEM workshops for children. This allowed me to use my practical science skills to teach children basic experiments that can take place outside the laboratory. I plan to continue with these workshops as I have had so much interest in them, especially from homeschooling parents and they have been so much fun and a pleasure to carry out.
Back to my book writing journey. In January of 2023, I published my book ‘My Adventure to Umrah’ which was originally written for my niece who was going on Umrah with her family. It became popular very quickly as it became the companion of children going on Umrah with their family that year.
In February, I carried out a creative writing workshop at a youth club in Hounslow. The children learnt how to write creatively and came up with some fantastic short stories.
In March, I was invited to Suffah Primary School for World Book Day. I read my book ‘My Adventure to Umrah’ to KS1 children and I read my book ‘There’s no compromise’ to children in KS2. They listened attentively and asked very interesting questions.
In April, Channel S recorded a short documentary on my book writing journey and the charity work I carry out. The clip was played during Ramadan to raise funds for charity.
In May, I was invited to the House of Parliament to see my writing in a exhibition. I had written a short piece on my childhood as a daughter of a seamstress. The piece was published in a book called ‘I sewed, I sewed and I sewed’ and it was launched that day by MP’s.
The other half of the year, although I have nothing to show was a time I spent writing my book on marriage and trying to complete my book writing book. I’m hoping that this book is completed soon and so I want to launch it at a high tea party very soon. Stay tuned for updates.
